Calling All Mom’s: Did you know…?

I know I’m not the only A Type personality mom out there - I know this because I am surrounded by these non-stop, motivated, clever, intelligent women.  Well,  I’m going to share a secret with you.  I was at my local Home Depot this afternoon and ended up speaking with the “Master Gardner” at that store - no, I didn’t make that up,  that’s her title and she has every right to be proud of it and use it… her list of certifications is very impressive.  Any who,  she was telling me that she is well connected with a number of local growers who offer her free fruit and vegetable plants to use at school programs.  For FREE, she will go to the schools, start AND maintain gardens with the children and educate them about growing their own fruits and veggies.  OMG (an acronym borrowed from my teen daughter - translation:  Oh, My God)  what an incredible opportunity for the children to get their hands dirty and learn about something that they most likely wouldn’t.  AND IT”S FREE TO THE SCHOOL.  I was so impressed - I gave her the name of a few local schools where I know some of the Administrators and of course the names of my children’s schools.  So, for you A Type Moms out there  - get a hold of your local nursery, growers, or large home improvement stores like Home Depot - you never know what type of programs they may be able to offer your children.  Expand their mind ladies…it’s fascinating to watch!

A Bit Off Topic: Writers Stike L.A.

My relatives are in town from back east so, on Monday we went to a taping of the Jay Leno show.  Great show by the way - and Jay fully supports the writers - he’s a good guy.  The writers were out in force picketing NBC Studios, on strike.   While we stood in line a few of the picketers tried to walk over to speak with us but were immediately confronted by a studio security guard.  There was no resistance and the writers went back to picketing.  Well,  I decided I wanted to hear from them and so I walked over to the picket line. We had a very civil, intelligent conversation.  I listened to them and they answered my questions.   At the end of our conversation I wholeheartedly supported the writers and their position.  All they want is their fair share for the work they do.   They want to get back to the discussion table, resolve the strike and get back to work;  after-all they are working folk with family and children to care for and bills to pay.  By the way,  the talks stalled when the Corporate Studios decided to walk out  from discussions when the writers tried to negotiate pay  for new media, such as Internet showings etc.  Come on…why shouldn’t they get paid for that?  Any lay person knows that the new media is only going to continue to grow and make the studios and their Execs.  that much more millions of dollars.  Why should the creative forces behind that success settle for anything less than their fair share? Anyway,  I thank them for their time and they thanked me for mine.  I caught up with my family and watched the show.

Because, I believe in putting your money where your mouth is - I went home and logged onto WGA.org (Writers Guild of America) and sent in a letter of support, as well as filled out a form letter to be sent to studio execs.  simply asking them to get back to the negotiating table and resolve the strike responsibly.   So,  if you so feel compelled log-onto WGA.org and voice your support or opinions or simply become a bit more educated on the whole strike situation -
